Cameroonian soccer striker Samuel Eto'o won an unprecedented four African Player of the Year Awards and back-to-back trebles with his European clubs.

In what has become one of the most popular things that he ever said is possibly found the reason for the great success that he has registered in his career as a footballer.“The first thing for victory is believing, believing that you can achieve. When you believe that you can achieve something, I'm sure that you're 60 percent on the path to victory.”

Born on March 10, 1981, in Nkon, Cameroon, Samuel Eto'o joined Real Madrid's Youth Football Academy in 1997. He led the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to victories at the 2000 and 2002 Africa Cup of Nations, and later won back-to-back trebles with European clubs FC Barcelona and Internazionale of Milan. A four-time African Player of the Year, Sammy Eto'o became soccer's highest-paid star after signing with Russian side FC Anzhi Makhachkala in 2011.

As the son of an accountant, he enjoyed a relatively comfortable childhood and attended the Kadji Sports Academy KSA in the city of Douala. He made earlier attempts to sign with a French soccer club as a teenager was rejected due to his tender age and lack of a proper ID. He however became a member of the respected Real Madrid's Youth Football Academy in 1997.

Sammy played briefly for Real Madrid and got loaned to other clubs throughout the late 1990s. However, the speedy striker established himself as a key player for the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon a team which he eventually headed as team captain. He led Cameroon to the 2000 and 2002 Africa Cup of Nations and to the Sydney Olympic Games where they won the gold medal in the year 2000.

In the meantime, Eto'o found a stable club home with RCD Mallorca. He scored twice in Mallorca's 2003 Copa Del Rey victory, a performance that helped him get the first of three straight African Player of the Year Awards, and became the club's all-time leading domestic league scorer.

Eto'o eventually signed with Spanish powerhouse FC Barcelona in 2004 and helped deliver a league title in his first season with the Catalan side. One of soccer's most lethal strikers, Eto'o earned the Pichichi Trophy as La Liga's leading scorer in 2006 and topped all competitors in goals at the 2006 and 2008 Africa Cup of Nations. But even though he was a major force behind Barcelona's treble-winning campaign of 2008-09, he fell out of favor with the club and was traded to Internazionale of Milan for Zlatan Ibrahimovic,.

Eto'o enjoyed a triumphant 2009-10 season with Internazionale earning Serie A, Champions League and Italian Cup victories to become the first player to win back-to-back trebles. He claimed a record fourth African Player of the Year Award in 2010, and guided his club to another Italian Cup championship at the end of the season.

In August 2011, Samuel Eto'o signed a three-year contract with the Russian Premier League's FC Anzhi Makhachkala that made him the highest-paid player in the world. However, the expensive striker was sold with the club looking to cut payroll, and he resumed his career as a member of the English Premier League's Chelsea F.C. in 2013-14.
Among other things, Samuel Eto’o is considered one of the greatest African footballers of all time. Eto’o attended the Kadji Sports Academy in Douala, Cameroon, and first came to national prominence while playing for UCB Douala, a second-division club, in the 1996 Cup of Cameroon. At only 16 years of age, he caught the attention of Spanish giants Real Madrid, one of the top teams in Europe who signed him in 1997 but Eto’o had very little playing time. Because he was still too young he saw no action with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon when it qualified for the 1998 FIFA World Cup but faltered in the first round.
Eto’o made his name playing for Cameroon during the 2000 African Cup of Nations where he scored four times, including a crucial goal in the Indomitable Lions’ gold-medal victory over Nigeria. His impressive play continued at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, where Cameroon defeated Spain for the first Olympic gold in its history. In the Olympic final, with the Indomitable Lions facing a 2–0 deficit in the second half, Eto’o and teammate Patrick Mboma led the comeback with two goals, forcing extra time. After Eto’o’s apparent goal in the final seconds of extra time was called back owing to an offside penalty, the game went into penalty kicks, in which Cameroon prevailed.
Eto’o was lent out to a number of teams by Real Madrid until 2000, when he signed with Real Mallorca of the Spanish League; his $6.3 million contract was the largest amount paid by the club at the time. Internationally, he guided the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to a second African Cup of Nations title and a World Cup berth in 2002. While Eto’o was an impressive player for Mallorca—he became the club’s all-time leading goal scorer—his team was still considered below the top tier of European footnall and he was lured to the powerhouse club FC Barcelone in 2004.
Eto’o continued his winning run in Barcelona. He won his record third consecutive African Player of the Year award in 2005, and Barcelona won Spanish first-division championships in 2005 and 2006, as well as the Champions League in 2006. In 2008 he became the all-time leading scorer in African Cup of Nations history as he helped Cameroon to an appearance in the tournament final (a loss to Egypt). Eto’o led Barcelona to a historic season in 2009, when the club captured its first “treble” by winning the national first-division title, Spain’s major domestic cup (Copa del Rey), and the UEFA Champions League. At the end of the season, Eto’o was transferred to Internazionale of Milan. He helped Inter win the 2010 Champions League title, and he was the club’s leading scorer with 37 goals during the 2010–11 Football Season. In 2011 he was transferred to the Russian team Anzhi Makhachkala, receiving what was reported to be one of the richest contracts in football history in the process. He signed a one-year agreement with Chelsea FC of the English Premier League in 2013. Samuel Eto’o moved to Everton the following year but appeared in just 20 matches with the club before he was transferred to Sampdoria of the Italian Serie A league in January 2015.
Most recently, Samuel Eto’o in a historic turn of events was appointed interim coach of Antalyaspor the club for which he plays in Turkey.
